Virtual reality goggles for animals

Virtual reality headsets are being used for a plethora of purposes even in the animal industry - from revolutionising pain management and comfort to even the army.

For instance, in order to discover if his cows could produce more milk, the owner of a cattle farm in Turkey tested virtual reality headsets on a few of them. The cows' virtual reality headgear give them the impression that they are outside in a bright field. The hardware was moulded to fit a cow's head even though it is a typical human VR kit. Once this was completed, professionals changed the software's colour scheme to make the VR headset more comfortable for cows' eyes. Since cows cannot see red or green, the hues had to be altered. Izzet Koçak, a cattle breeder and rancher in Aksaray, Turkey, reports that after utilising the VR equipment on two of his cows, their milk production jumped from 22 to 27 litres per day. Koçak claims that prior research has demonstrated how environmental factors have an impact on cow health and milk output. Koçak leads his animals around the vast pasture and also lets them listen to calming music while they are being walked.

Here's another example: the US Army has demonstrated fighting dog augmented reality eyewear that will allow them to take orders from a distance. Military canines are able to scan the area for bombs and other dangers, but they require training. The goggles are made to allow their handlers to guide them safely away from danger. The canines may detect a visual cue within the goggles that they can be trained to follow, leading them to a certain location. Through a remote video feed, the handler can view what the dog sees.
